Obituary

Sybil Christine (Chris) Hodges, beloved, outstanding mother, loving grandmother and constant friend, went to be with her Lord on 10th of December, 2025. Her faith was strong and unwavering. Chris accepted Christ when she was 11 years old and knew, without a doubt, where her eventual home would be.

Chris was born in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of Vivian and Grady Daniell on September 5, 1936. At the age of 2 she moved to Baytown, Texas. Chris said she got to Texas as soon as she could.

Chris grew up in Baytown where her family owned several meat markets. Her family later moved to Dayton, Texas, where she graduated from high school.

Chris was a talented seamstress and quilter with a wonderful eye for color. She had a gift for teaching and taught many quilting classes over the years. If you were a friend or family member, you more than likely have a quilt or wall hanging that she made. “Blessed are the children and friends of the piece makers, for they shall inherit the quilts!”

Chris was a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaining. If you were at her table, you would enjoy a delicious meal along with great conversation. She loved to tell a good story or joke and was well versed in many subjects.

First and foremost, Chris existed for her family and friends. Her smile and hearty laugh would light up any room she entered endearing her to people. Her love was unconditional, and when you met her, you knew you were in the presence of someone special. She will be so missed by all the people who knew her, socialized with her, traveled with her and had the good fortune to have her as a mother, grandmother or friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband A. Earl Hodges, grandson Sorrell Fregia, sons-in-law Donnie Simmons and Eddie Fregia, her parents Dick and Vivian Nelson, extended family members Roberta Brock, Martha Ann Hutchins, Gordan Melancon, Jeannie Gillard, and David and Ruth Young.

Chris is survived by her daughters Carin Simmons-Adam and Denni Fregia, son-in-law Doyle Adam, grandsons Justin and Cammeron Simmons, granddaughters Erin Simmons and Tracy Adam, great-grandchildren Chloe and Ben Castro, Naomi Simmons, Isaac Simmons, Mikaela Simmons, Eli Simmons, Levi Adam, cousins Derrell and Rosalynn Young and extended family members Celie and Joe Bloomfield, Rome and Wanda Bloomfield, Clay Bloomfield, Mac Melancon, Amy and Adron Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Meagan and Parker Hileman and many others.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at Brenham Memorial Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. the same day. Interment and graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 13702 Sralla Road, Crosby, Texas.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX 77833. Phone number 979-836-3611. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.brenhammemorialchapel.com
