Obituary

Walter William (Butch) Rodenbeck completed his earthly journey on August 19, 2025 at the age of 94. He lived a long and blessed life.

He was born on October 7, 1930, to Arthur and Elsie (Broecker) Rodenbeck in Brenham, Texas. He became a child of God through baptism on December 7, and was confirmed on April 7, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill.

He was educated in the Hohenwalde and Cedar Hill schools until 9th grade, and then attended Brenham High School and graduated in 1947.

On January 30, 1957, he married Elouise Borchardt Hoefelmeyer in Bellville, Texas. Walter was a very dedicated and caring husband for 53 years.

Family was a big part of his life. He was dearly loved by his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Theresa, his grandchildren, Ryan and Annie Rodenbeck and Rachel Rodenbeck Parker; his great-grandchildren, Presley and Braxton Parker and Bennett and Emily Rodenbeck, and great, great-grandson Briggs Parker. They all lovingly called him “Pop.”

He was a very loyal member of Zion. He served on the church council, was a member of the Bluebonnet Club, and counted the offering for 25 years. He was a dear friend to many at Zion.

Butch was well-known and well-loved for his friendliness and his joking nature. Drinking coffee with friends at Felders made his day.

He worked at Schwettmann’s Service Station for many years and at Sealy Mattress. He won many trips during the 28 years he worked for Washington National Insurance.

After retiring, he worked part time for 13 years at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Sports were one of his greatest pleasures and interests. As a young man, he played softball and baseball for many years in church leagues and business-sponsored leagues. He was a successful bowler and went to tournaments all over Texas. He was a huge fan of Little League and high school baseball and softball. He attended countless games to watch his son, grandchildren, family members and friends play. He also greatly enjoyed watching football and baseball on TV.

He was a blessed child of God having surviving heart surgery, three cancers, and Covid. He was well cared for at Argent Court for the last 2 years.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, sister and brother-in-law Allyne (Rodenbeck) and Lenord Buro, mother-and father-in-law Herman and Minnie (Reddehase) Borchardt, sisters-and brothers-in-law Adeline and Pete Studhalter, Bernice and Wilbert Eickhoff, Florence and Franklin Borchardt, Herman Borchardt, and niece Judy Kieke.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, sister-in-law Elverna Borchardt, Godson Gary Buro, and Goddaughters Sherrie Winkelmann, Janie Krebs, and Wendy Horak. He was “Uncle Butch” to many beloved nieces and nephews.

His pallbearers are great-grandson Braxton Parker, great-nephews Mike Adams and Jason Meekins, nephews Donnie Studhalter, Marty Spivey, Derrell Krebs, and Billy Holle, and close family friend Brian Grimm.
