Obituary

William Jackson “Bill” Garner Jr., 88, passed away on January 2, 2020.

Bill was born on April 19, 1931, to parents William Sr. and Lona Louise, who were residents of Houston. Bill grew up in Houston with his siblings, and enjoyed telling stories of his pet pig he had as a child.

Following graduation, he was employed at Hobby Airport as an aircraft mechanic. Bill was a strong, straightforward person, and a very hard worker. Bill owned and operated a successful auto body and paint shop in Pasadena, TX for many years. Bill was active in helping wife Ginny raise their four sons. Bill loved and was very proud of his boys, who all worked alongside him in the shop and learned the trade from him. In later years, Bill was married to Martha Castleberry who preceded him in death after 38 years of marriage.

Cars were not only Bill’s livelihood, but his hobby. Bill’s pride and joy was a Caribe Pegasus Corvette that he custom built with his friends. They entered the car in the Houston Autorama for several years and the car received much attention at every show. Bill so enjoyed his work that even in retirement he continued to tinker in his home shop in Chappell Hill. His retirement car was a ’93 Lincoln Town Car that he kept in pristine condition. Even in recent years as his health declined, he was always eager to advise others on their projects and would often say, “I’d come down to the shop and help you if I could!” Ginny Garner was his constant companion during his failing health in the last three years.

Bill’s simple pleasures included chicken fried steak, Blue Bell Ice Cream (any flavor he could get his hands on), old country music (Johnny Cash was his favorite), and spending time with his dog, Princess, who had been with him for 14 years. He and Martha enjoyed going to dances and hearing country music when they could. Bill attended Brenham’s Church of Christ with his family when his health would allow.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Joseph Allen, Christopher Lynn, and William Jackson Garner III; and wife Martha Garner.

Surviving family includes son Timothy Lee and wife Cheryl; and the mother of his children, Ginny Garner. He was “Paw-Paw” to granddaughter Amber Garner and her children, his great-grandchildren Nate, Alek, and Abel.

Visitation with the family will take place at 9:00 am until the funeral service starts at 10:30 am on Monday, January 6, 2020, at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Dr. Doug Hall of Brenham’s Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow at The Masonic Cemetery of Chappell Hill.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Billy Bennett, Bo Davidson, Tim Hasten, Tom Aubos, Chris Masters, and Jose, Hector, and Willie Ortiz.

The family would like to thank all involved in his care.
