Obituary

Alfred Maass, 74 of Burton, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009.

He was born March 7, 1935 in the Burton community to Gustav and Clara (Kluck) Maass. He was a life long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, being baptized April 28, 1935 by Rev. A. Walton and confirmed April 10, 1949 by Rev. E.H. Schwengel. He was a 1955 graduate of Burton High School. On August 20, 1993, he was married to Virginia Ueckert Brau at St. Paul Lutheran, Serbin, Texas by Rev. Paul Hartfield. Mr. Maass was a self-employed farmer, rancher, painter and carpenter.

He was preceded in death by parents and brother-in-law Tom Minor.

Survivors include: wife, Virginia “Pat” Maass of Burton; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Debbie Brau of Brenham, Billy and Sondra Brau of Industry; step-grandchildren, Abby Brau, Matt and Dillon McLendon, Gaithon and Ryland Brau; brother, Edwin Maass of Houston; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Minor of Houston, Edwina and John Sanders of Orange; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Boyd Ueckert of Nelsonville, Dale and Dean Kollatschny of Katy; nephews and nieces, Virginia Sanders, Timothy Sanders, Matthew Sanders, David Sanders, Joe Sanders, Katherine Anderson; step-nephews, Shawn Kollatschny, Jason Kollatschny.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 21st from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be Thursday, October 22nd at 2 p.m. in St. John’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg and Pastor Greg Felder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Matt Sanders, Joe Sanders, David Sanders, Tim Sanders, Shawn Kollatschny, Jason Kollatschny, Woodrow Heine, Billy Krause, Don Woltmann, and Ricky Wegner.

Memorials suggested to St. John’s United Church of Christ building fund.
