Obituary

Allene Klatte Holtkamp, 92, and widow of A.G. (Doc) Holtkamp, found peace from her earthly struggle with dementia on April 2, 2023. This day has great significance since it was also her baptism day in 1931. Allene was born on September 20, 1930, in Brenham, Texas, to Edwin and Lydia Franke Klatte. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where her family had been founding members after emigrating from Germany.

Allene attended Rocky Hill School before attending Brenham High School, and she attained an Associate of Arts degree from Blinn College. After graduation, she began employment as a bookkeeper at Langston Motor Company in Brenham. Allene and Doc Holtkamp married on July 3, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church and remained active in their membership throughout their married life. Her marriage to Doc was blessed by two children, Susan and Don. Whether sewing Maifest costumes or helping with the 4-H projects, Allene loved supporting her children's activities.

As a lifelong member of the church, Allene served in many areas. She enjoyed being a part of the memorial committee, the ladies aid, along with family aid where she assisted at funerals. She also enjoyed SHARE, a social time with other church members.

Allene was proud to be a third generation family member on the farm where she and Doc worked together raising cattle. The family spent many hours in their vegetable garden, and Allene happily shared the perfect pickle and jelly recipes with her family. During early years of their marriage, Allene kept busy with jobs at several accounting firms in Brenham, demonstrating her love for numbers. Allene made the decision to take up studying real estate. She attained her broker's license which allowed her to meet new people and clients, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Allene cherished her time with family and especially enjoyed spending time with her four granddaughters and six great grandchildren, who lovingly called her Meme. The family looked forward to her meals of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, along with her delicious cinnamon rolls, apple pies, and sugar cookies. Throughout her life, Allene showed great compassion for animals. She always had a pet at her home, ranging from Boxers, her favorite dog breed, to rescue cats that she spoiled well. Pink was her favorite color, even owning a pink floral sofa at one time. The granddaughters loved spending nights at Meme's house sleeping on that pink sofa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Laura Holtkamp, Willie and Grace Holtkamp, Robert and Leona Holtkamp, brothers-in-law, Hilbert Goessler and Kenneth Stufflebeme; and niece and nephews, Albert and Geneva Ehlert, and Jim Stufflebeme.

Allene is survived by her children, Susan Appel and husband Gregg, Don Holtkamp and wife Regina; grandchildren, Candice and Steven Kemper, Caroline and Ryan Long, Stephanie and Chris Koehler, and Johanna and Blake Becker; great grandchildren, Kannon and Knowles Koehler, Jack and Paige Kemper, and Andrew and Hannah Long. She is survived by her sister, Edwina Stufflebeme, and sister-in-law, Lena Mae Goessler, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hinda Lott, for her care and compassion shown over the past year as our mother's caregiver. We also wish to thank Carolyn Coleman, Equilla Parker, and CaTorrie Fielder who became her nighttime caregivers the last weeks of her life.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 7, from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. with family present from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Pastor Norman Sulaica officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mike Stufflebeme, Herbert Klatte, Jr., Dr. Jack An, Charles Holtkamp, Gary Goessler, Kevin Goessler, Karl Goessler, Barney Loesch, and Dr. William Loesch.
