Obituary

Alton L. Jacobs, of Brenham, passed away April 4, 2023 in College Station, Texas.

Alton Luther Jacobs was born January 20, 1943 in Speaks (Lavaca County) Texas to Luther and Lillie (Klimitchek) Jacobs. Alton graduated from LaGrange High School. He gained experience in mechanics while working at the LaGrange gas station. This would be the foundation of his life’s work. He worked in Corpus Christi, Austin and Houston, where he worked for International Harvester for 30 years and owned Jacob’s Automotive. He also worked for Navasota ISD. In 1981, he moved to Brenham. Here he worked for Clayco, Brenham ISD transportation and Longwood and opened Jacob’s Automotive.

On October 15, 1961, Alton married Katherine Leonhardt at Bethlehem Lutheran at Round Top. To this union Kristine, Allen and David were born. She preceded him in death December 6, 1998.

While working at Brenham ISD, Alton met Pauline (Nowak) Sander. They were married May 4, 2002 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Alton spent time fishing, gardening and deer hunting. He enjoyed playing Bull Poker at the Washington County Fair and attending Bluebonnet Opry and dances with Pauline.

He was preceded in death by: wife, Katherine; infant sister, Gladys; sibling and spouses, Dorothy and Carl Ponton, Lawrence Chapman, Faye Jacobs, Vera and Frankie Knight, Billy Jacobs; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha Leonhardt, Margaret and Bennie Faterkowski, Leonard Nowak.

Surviving family includes: loving and caring wife Pauline Jacobs; children Kristine and Tim Hembry, Allen and Melanie Jacobs, David and Anita Jacobs; grandchildren, Kimberly Hembry, Dawson Jacobs, Brad Jacobs, Dylan Jacobs, Kaylin Jacobs, Kade Jacobs, Kaleb Jacobs; brother Kenneth Jacobs; sister Corene Chapman; numerous nephews and nieces; favorite pet Heidi.

Visitation will be Monday, April 10th from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. with family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11th at 10 a.m. at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church.
