Barbara Lange

Barbara Dawna Lange, 83, passed away on November 27, 2021 with her family by her side. Barbara was born September 13, 1938 in New Orleans, LA to Robert and Dawna Browning.

The Browning family moved to Houston, Texas where Barbara attended Deady Jr. High and graduated from Milby High School in 1956. She furthered her education at Sam Houston State and as a freshman she was voted Miss Sam Houston State which entitled her to enter the Miss Texas pagent but she refused because she had accepted a job in Arizona to be a counselor at a girls camp.

During Jr. High and High School Barbara was heavily involved in swimming. She was a member of the famous Shamrock Hilton Corkettes where she traveled extensively throughout the U.S. giving water shows and competing in National meets.

On August 22, 1959 she was united in marriage to Norwood Lange. They had a joyous marriage for over 61 years. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Mark and Lyndi and two grandchildren, Joshua and Haley Lange. Barbara was known by her peers to be as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She never met a stranger that she did no became friends with.

Barbara and Norwood moved back to Brenham in 1980 after living in Houston, Pasadena, Galveston and Beaumont.

After the children were in high school Barbara decided to take a part time job at St. Jude Hospital where she met Gary Appelt who was beginning his medical practice and asked Barbara to help him set it up. Her answer was “Yes” and she committed to 90 days and retired from there 20 years later!

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dawna Browning and her father and mother in law, Herman and Lena Lange. She is survived by her loving husband, Norwood, her children; Mark (Renna) and Lyndi Lange, her grandchildren; Joshua and Haley Lange, her sister; Beth Malek, cousins; Sandy Satterwhite and Buddy Smith.

The family would like to thank Brazos Valley Hospice for their love and support during this difficult time as well as Renna Lange.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 305 W. Third St. Brenham, Texas.
