Janie Louise (Mikeska) Hrachovy

Janie Louise (Mikeska) Hrachovy, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed from this life to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2022, at the age of 78. Visitation with the family will be from 5 – 7 pm, Friday, April 8, 2022, at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Rosary will follow at 7 pm. The funeral service will be at 11 am, Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg, Texas, followed by interment in the church cemetery. A meal will then be served in the Diamond Center.

Janie was born on October 5, 1943, to John W. and Milada (Maresh) Mikeska in Oak Hill, Texas. She married James Hrachovy in 1962, joining him in Galveston where he was a first-year medical student. While in Galveston, she worked in the insurance industry and gave birth to her three oldest daughters, Cynthia, Susan, and Julie. After her husband’s army career, the family settled in Brenham, where their youngest daughter, Sara, was born. Janie became a respected medical records professional, serving in responsible positions at both Bohne and St. Jude Hospitals. During this time she earned her Accredited Record Technician credential from the American Health Information Management Association. She continued to hold various jobs in quality assurance and medical records until she and James relocated to Lubbock in 1992, where she continued to work in the medical records field until 1995, after which time she retired.

In 2000, Janie and James moved to their dream retirement farm, where she continued to take care of the green spaces until prevented from doing so by health challenges. In January 2016, Janie was diagnosed with a brain tumor causing her to lose her ability to walk, and she then suffered a stroke from which she never truly recovered. From then on, she was a nursing home resident.

Janie’s greatest pleasures in life were her children and grandchildren. She carted her kids around to all of their activities, even serving as a Girl Scout troop leader, Camp Director at Happy Hollow Girl Scout Camp, and area director for Girl Scouts. She was an artist, as well as an excellent cook. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and hunting. She influenced others, including her daughter Susan, to enter the medical records profession. Her love, laughter and ability to polka and waltz will truly be missed.

Janie is preceded in death by: her parents, John and Milada Mikeska; her parents-in-law, Adolph and Lorena Hrachovy; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Elsie Mikeska; her sister-in-law, Elaine Pawlak and husband Julian; and her grandparents. She is survived by: her husband, James Hrachovy; her daughters, Cynthia Wallace and husband Thomas, Susan Fenton, Julie Hrachovy, and Sara Wilkins; grandchildren, Alexis “A.J.” Fenton, Jr. and wife Celena, Anna Kate Hrachovy, Kierstin Wilkins and Teag Wilkins; and brother-in-law Richard Hrachovy and wife Cheryle; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Teag Wilkins, A.J. Fenton, Tom Wallace, Larry Mikeska, Dale Pawlak, Gregg Pawlak, Rick Hrachovy, and Johnny Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be Judy Smith, Pam and Billy Maddox, Gene McNicoll, Joan and Jerry Been, and all the Camp Ranch Hunters.
