Obituary

Jody Camille Paschall Godwin, a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible 70 years of life, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, November 21, 2021 at home.

Born and raised in Houston to Lester Francis Paschall and Bettye Doris Black, Jody attended Spring Branch High School, where she graduated with honors. During her junior year she met her future husband, Allen David Godwin through a blind date arranged by her sister Doris. After attending one year at the University of Houston, Jody and Allen married on May 22, 1971. Jody continued her academics at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology. After her graduation Allen and Jody stayed in College Station, and she joined the Agriculture and Analytical Laboratory at TAMU, working as a microbiologist.

After Allen’s graduation, Jody and Allen started their new adventures. They moved not only throughout the eastern United States but around the globe while welcoming three lovely sons, Sam, Jim, and Dan. Jody was an active stay-at-home mom, volunteering for countless roles. She was a science instructor in the boys’ schools, BSA Cub and Scout leader, coach, and embraced all the neighborhood kids in her kitchen as the “kool-aid mom”. Once her boys were older she returned to the workforce as a Pilot Plant Technician for ExxonMobil. She retired in 2011 when her passion for her grandkids, hobbies, and travels outweighed the pull for the lab.

Jody loved her grandkids fiercely. She played with them for hours on end and spoiled them rotten. All the young Godwin kids know the joy of having ice cream for breakfast. Another passion for Jody was all of her artistic pursuits and her joy in learning new skills. She decorated her house with beautiful handmade stained glass, took painting classes with her friend Dew Harvey, and made quilts for every special occasion working with her sister Carol and friend Linda Carpenter. She loved to give her creations away allowing others to feel her love in her items. Over the last few years Allen and Jody continued their love of travel again with the Traveling Aggies, seeing new sites with wonderful new friends. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her sisters: Doris, Mae and Carol and her best friend, Linda Carpenter of College Station, Texas. The what and where would change with those ladies but fully body laughter was always a guarantee.

Jody is survived by her husband, Allen; her sisters, Doris Camp of Sante Fe, TX, Mae Zaunbrecher of Kenedy, TX, and Carol Thomas of Lake Charles, LA; her sons, Samuel Godwin and wife Deidra of Tomball, TX, Daniel Godwin and wife Melissa Ross of Austin, TX, and James Godwin of Houston, TX; and seven grandchildren, Mason Godwin, Austin Godwin, Sean Godwin, Owen Godwin, Nathan Godwin, Elijah Ross-Godwin and Penelope Ross-Godwin.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Bettye Doris Black; father, Lester Francis Paschall; stepfather, Bernard Herstein; and brother, Gary Dallas Paschall.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham with Rev. Rhonda Rogers officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM.
