Obituary

John Kenneth Reichwein, Jr., 74, of Brenham passed away March 10, 2006 at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Reichwein was born June 12, 1931 in Houston, Texas to John and Opal Burkett Reichwein. He graduated from Kirwin High School in Galveston, Texas in 1950. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955. He also became a member of the Masons Ocean Lodge 214 in Brunswick, Georgia. Mr. Reichwein attended the University of Houston, where he met his wife, Harriet Kay Hill. They were married September 1, 1956 in Texas City, Texas. He then became owner of 2-K’s Television Repair and Antenna Systems Installation in Houston from 1956 through 1973. In 1969, he moved his family to Brenham. He became a sales representative for Lance seven years, prior to owning and operating Wonder Hill Dairy, along with his son for eighteen years. They sold the dairy cows in 1998 and he continued raising beef cattle on the farm. Mr. Reichwein was a charter member of the Washington County Property Owners Association, which was instrumental in getting the agriculture exemption for property owners in the state of Texas. Also, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brenham. He loved to spend time at his farm, and being with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Kay Reichwein of Brenham; son Robert Reichwein and wife Lori of Brenham; daughters Deanna Callahan and husband Michael John of Brenham, Linda Zientek and husband Gilbert of Chappell Hill; grandchildren Dustin and Taylor Reichwein, Matthew and Michael John Callahan II, Jason, Jacob and Jenna Zientek.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 13, 2006 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Brenham, with Dr. Wesley Welborn and Rev. Diane Presley officiating.

Mr. Reichwein’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, or charity of your choice.
