LeRoy Hamilton Cunningham, Jr.

LeRoy Hamilton Cunningham, Jr. died peacefully on January 2, 2022 surrounded by family who loved him dearly.

He was born in Port Arthur, TX on June 15, 1938 and was the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Lindale High School in 1956 and attended the University of Houston before joining the Marine Corp in 1958. He was stationed in Okinawa, Christmas Island and Camp Pendleton. He worked in sales of heavy equipment and was a home-builder for many years in Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jacqueline Davis, his father LeRoy Hamilton Cunningham Sr, and his brother David Hamman. He is survived by his wife Linda Brannen, his daughter Hope Komatz, husband Fritz Komatz, grand children Alexander and Marlena Komatz of Clarkston, MI, son Mark Cunningham and grand daughters Courtney and Caroline Cunningham of Austin, TX, step-children Jason Brannen, wife Sabrina and sons Jimmy and Joey of Spring, TX and Colleen Brannen, husband Ben Brady and children Norah and Liam of Jamaica Plane, MA.

He was also survived by his sisters, Francanna Welborn of Nashville, TN, Kathleen Stinson of Laughlin, NV, Victoria Howie and husband Jeff Howie of Hideaway Lakes, TX, and Sally Erdowdu and husband Erol Erdowdu of Houston, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He will always be remembered for his pride in serving as a Marine, his love of flying, black and white movies, books, walks, music, his handy carpentry skills, sweets of all kinds and meat, beans and potatoes! Sister Vicky stated it best of her big brother, "He reminded me of a never ending scavenger hunt- always trying to find all of him, but it was always filled with curiosity and mystery while you never arrived at the end. He was funny, dependable, ornery, cantankerous, generous and miserly, demanding and merciful, and kind. He loved history, poetry, sweets, walks, quiet, solitude, family, sunsets, sunrises, vistas, reflection, memories, nostalgia, and affirmation. He was our dependable, supportive and loving brother."

There will be a celebration of his life in the near future.
