Obituary

Mabel L. (Finke) Seeker, 97, of Brenham passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center.

Mabel was born September 6, 1912 in Washington County to parents John and Mary (Herrmann) Finke and attended Washington County schools at Prairie Hill. On January 19, 1913 she was baptized by Rev. Friedrich Apfelbach and confirmed April 18, 1927 by Rev. Paul Gogolin both at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. On October 20, 1931 and also at St. John, she was united in marriage to Walter Seeker and was married for 68 years before his death. Having been a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, she was a member the Ladies Aid. She and her late husband were the original owners of Seeker’s Lake, a favorite gathering place for many celebrations and occasions, from the 1950s throughout the 1970s. From 1956 until 1978, Mabel was a sales clerk for Faske’s Jewelry and prior to that she worked at Montgomery Ward in Brenham.

Her parents, husband Walter Seeker and brother Jones Finke preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Edna Finke, numerous nieces and nephews along with special friends and neighbors, Evelyn and Walter Thielemann.

Viewing will begin at noon on Tuesday, June 29 with visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 2010 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. The Rev. Dr. Sue Beall and Rev. David Hansen will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Scott Finke, Paul Cleveland, Morris Faske, Ron Schlottmann, Roy Kokemoor, Bob Handley, Edwin Seeker and Kenneth Seeker.
