Obituary

Mike John “Gramps” Kopycinski, of Chappell Hill passed away peacefully October 22, 2021, at the age of 65 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Mike was born March 9, 1956 in Chappell Hill and has been a true native to the Chappell Hill community taking immense pride in his Polish heritage. Mike was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He grew up working at his family’s local business which he later owned and operated alongside his wife. The couple shared a passion and love for the café and meat market and could always be found sharing recipes, tall tales and the coming weather. Laughter was a staple in their lives like salt and pepper.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Billie and Tecklea (Brzymialkiewicz) Kopycinski; and dear friends Floyd and Natalie Cegelski. Mike is survived by his wife of 28 years Emily “Cissy” Kopycinski; and two children Heidi Thompson Wilson of Fort Worth and Chris Thompson of Brenham. Mike leaves two grandchildren; Thayley Thompson and Taite Siemsglusz. Taite and her husband Jordan Siemsglusz will be welcoming Mike’s first great-grandchild in January 2022. In addition to his immediate family, Mike is survived by his three siblings Johnny Kopycinski, JoAnn Zimmerman and Mark Cegelski, along with his loyal friend Edgar “Kunte” Punchant.

During their residence in Chappell Hill, Mike and Cissy participated in many local activities that included the St. Stanislaus Catholic Bazaar, Scarecrow Festival and annual Fourth of July Celebration. Mike’s pride and joy were the many years of involvement as a loyal member of the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department. In July 2009, Mike was recognized as Man of the Year by the Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce.

Mike “Gramps” enjoyed the simple things in life, a hot cup of coffee in the morning, taking the perfect nap during a rainstorm, smothered pork chops (bone-in, of course), fellowship with friends and family, running cattle in the bottom, and simply sitting in his favorite chair with his dog BoogerRay, watching the day go by. Mike loved a good story and had an uncanny ability to draw people in with his laugh, smile, and kind, gentle soul. He was a good man and loved by many.

Services will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with a Rosary at 10:15 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Graveside burial will follow afterward at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Following services, the family invites everyone to join them for lunch at the Parish Hall to share their many memories and stories of Mike and his amazing life.
