Obituary

Mildred Kramer Richter, 100, of Brenham, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. Mrs. Richter was born May 1, 1921 in the Prairie Hill Community to Fritz and Lena Ellermann Kramer. Christened Milda Martha Leona Louise, she was baptized on May 15, 1921 by Pastor Fritz Appelbach, and confirmed by Pastor Paul Gogolin on April 5, 1936, both at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. She attended school at Prairie Hill Public School.

On December 12, 1942, Mildred married Wilbert A. Richter at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gogolin performing the ceremony. Early on, she worked alongside her husband on their family farm, sewed clothing for Nat’s Tiny Tots, and sold cosmetics for Avon. Later, she worked for the food services department at Brenham State School for ten years and also at Grace Lutheran School before her retirement.

After her marriage in 1942, Mildred and Willie became faithful members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. There, she was a charter member of the Women of the Church, member of the altar guild, and the Mary and Martha Ladies Circle. Mildred was also a member of the Hermann Sons Lodge #193 of Gay Hill and an active member of the Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Washington County Fair.

Mildred spent her entire life helping and caring for others. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her cooking, especially her homemade rolls and fried chicken, were legendary, and her handmade quilts were creations of beauty and will be forever cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Lena Ellermann Kramer; husband, Wilbert A. Richter; son, Wilbert L. Richter; granddaughter, Mindy Richter Moses; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Stella Kramer, Otto and Gertie Kramer, Alfred and Gladys Kramer, Charles and Lorene Kramer, and Edgar and Clarice Kramer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lydia and Clarence Goessler, Edna and Walter Lehmann, Verda and Robert Rogge, and Helen and Eddie Gottwald.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Patty Richter of Bellville, James and Joyce Richter of Brenham, and Connie Richter of Brenham; grandchildren, Clayton and Glynda Richter of Helotes, Jeff and Amie Richter of San Antonio, Raschel and Scott York of Somerville, Chet and Doni Richter of Bellville, Tray Moses of Bellville, Sara Richter Thompson and Angel Costilla of Del Valle, and Julie Richter and Adam Spies of Burton. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Gretchen Richter of Houston, Madeline Richter of Helotes, William Richter of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Harrison Richter of Alexandria, Virginia, Peighton Richter of Dallas, Ellie Richter of College Station, Lillie Richter of San Antonio, Alex York of Somerville, Jaxon Richter and Riley Richter of Bellville, Megan Pellerin and husband Shawn of Zionsville, Cole Moses of Bellville, Cassie Moses of College Station, and Lily and Violet Costilla of Del Valle; and great-great-grandchildren, Tatum and Levy Pellerin of Zionsville. She will also be missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and special friend Debbie.

Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022 from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, 8201 Old Gay Hill Rd, Brenham.

Pallbearers will be: Jaxon Richter, Alex York, David Lehmann, Gary Winkelmann, Adam Spies, Chad Schwarze, Chris Buenzow and Angel Costilla

Honorary pallbearers will be: Chet Richter, Tray Moses, Clayton Richter, Jeff Richter, Scott York, William Richter, Harrison Richter and Cole Moses.

In lieu of flowers, your memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill – General Fund or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
