Obituary

Milton “Mickey” Janner, 82 of Brenham, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at his home after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s.

Mickey was born August 29, 1926 in the Mound Hill Community of Washington County, Texas to Charlie F. and Emma Rust Janner. He was baptized on October 18, 1926 by Rev. O. A. Meyer and confirmed on September 29, 1940 by Rev. Martin Ernst in Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church of Gay Hill. He attended Live Oak, Mound Hill and Burton Schools and served for a short time in the U.S. Army before being discharged for medical reasons.

On December 17, 1950 he married Elvera Schulze at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Paul Gogolin. Elvera and Mickey then moved to Houston to start their new life together and to raise their four children, Connie, Donna, Doyle and Jeffrey. Mickey worked for 30 years in downtown Houston at Daniel Radiator Shop. In 1981 they moved back to Brenham to enjoy the good life and he continued to work at Brenham Radiator Shop until his final retirement in 1995.

In his earlier years, Mickey was very active in his church serving as elder, usher and in other positions at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Houston and Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. But in the last few years, because of his health, he was unable to participate in those activities and he sorely missed them. Currently he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

Mickey was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a fun loving man, who never met a stranger. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing, gardening and taking care of his cows and chickens as long as he was able. He was also an avid Houston Astros fan. Sharing the good country life with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great happiness. Their visits in these last few months were especially cherished. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will be forever grateful for all the loving prayers and acts of kindness during this difficult time and especially thank AMA Homecare for their dedicated service and tender loving care.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Edwin and Emma Witt Schulze, granddaughter Dana Nicole Janner, brother-in-law Hermann Weiss, Jr., nephew B. J. Janner and great nephew Travis Janner.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elvera; daughters and sons-in-law Connie and Danney Rohde of Brenham, Donna and David DeLeon of Corpus Christi; sons and daughters-in-law Doyle and Daphne Janner of Brenham, Jeffrey and Meg Janner of Brenham; grandchildren Lisa Dungan of Round Rock, Chad Rohde of Brenham, Kristin and Bryan Limke, Kalen and Greg Selman, Kiffen DeLeon and Dustin DeLeon all of Corpus Christi, David DeLeon, Jr. and fiancé Shanda Ashton of Austin, Derek and Michelle Janner of Brenham, Lori and Sargon Palmer of Round Rock, Joel Janner of Kerrville and Matthew Janner of Brenham; great-grandchildren Emma, Rylin, Bryson, Ryder, Savannah, Maddie, soon to be Zachary, Paige and Kash; brothers and sisters-in-law Herbert and Gloria Janner of Brenham, Charles and Kay Janner of Clay; sister LaVerne Weiss of Brenham, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ruth and Clyde “Hank” Duvall and Verlyn and Onis Finke of Brenham along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
