Obituary

Raymond Walker, age 96, passed away at his home in Brenham Friday, August 19, 2022.

Raymond Hugh Walker was born June 22, 1926, in Houston, Texas to parents Charles and Mary Wolf Walker. He was a 1944 graduate of Reagan High School. He volunteered during WW II, joining the U.S. Navy in June 1944. Seaman Walker was assigned to the new ship U.S.S. Norton Sound. Here he spent 18 months at sea.

Shortly after returning home, Raymond met Erma Gasper. They were married April 24, 1948, in Cypress. He had a successful 35-year career with Truckline Gas Company in Cypress, where he became a supervisor. He was a founding member of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1992, the couple moved to Brenham. He took great pride in overseeing the construction of their new home. Raymond and Erma became involved in the community. They provided leadership and service to the Bluebonnet Opry 1998-2008. He was a Life Member of Brenham VFW Post 7104 and American Legion Buddy Wright Post 48.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years Erma Walker, two sisters and one brother.

Surviving family includes: son Charles Walker and wife Sandra; daughters Janice Kitzmann and husband Clayton and Colleen Nungesser and husband George; grandchildren Clint and Andrea Kitzmann, Leigh Neidigk, Charlotte and Ryan Chavez, Amy and Art Gutierrez, Mallory and Tony Newman, Taylor Walker, Chris and Kelli Nungesser, Barrett and Liliana Nungesser; great-grandchildren Ethan, Brennan, Kaden, and Calleigh Neidigk, Miles and Eliana Gutierrez, Jack and Ben Newman, George Nungesser V, Rylie Chavez; sister Margarite Zahn; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Ulrich.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 23rd from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 pm. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24th at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Pastor Norman Sulaica, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clint Kitzmann, Barrett Nungesser, Chris Nungesser, Ryan Chavez, Arturo Gutierrez and Cole Dismukes. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Emely, Milton Roberts and Gary Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Bluebonnet Opry, St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, or VFW Post 7104.
