Obituary

Wilbert Walter Braun, 77, of Brenham, passed away on January 31, 2008.

Wilbert Walter “Sonny” Braun was born on April 30, 1930 in the Round Top - Carmine area to Walter H. and Louise (Emmrich) Braun. He was baptized in Waldeck Lutheran Church, October 5, 1930, and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, April 2, 1944. He attended public schools at Round Top-Carmine and later at Blinn College in Brenham. On March 31, 1951, he married Gertrude Fincher in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Brenham by Rev. Theo. Streng. He was a dedicated employee of Brenham Wholesale Grocery Company for 43 years and retired in 1992. During his retirement he enjoyed tending to cattle at his farm near Carmine. In later years he greatly enjoyed the company of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Gertrude; son Gerald Mark Braun and wife Pamela of College Station; daughter Sally Marie (Braun) Bender and husband Jason of Brenham; granddaughters Paige and Juliann Braun; grandsons Blaine and Brant Bender; sister Doreen Jameson and husband Ben of Beaumont, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Brenham Memorial Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Floyd Braun, Ray Gene Rosenbaum, Ronald Braun, Max Baranowski, Edgar Fricke, Donald Becker, Otto Wehring, Jr., and Ben W. Jameson. Friends and neighbors will be considered honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Christian Day School, Brenham, or your charity of choice.
