I well remember you, him and your family. He was a friendly, unassuming, and humble man, generous with his time, eager to help where he could and very importantly a family man. I well remember the visits I had at your home and the tender, realistic care that you both provided not only to your children and grandchildren but more importantly to your parents in some of their final days.
May God carry you through this next few days and weeks as you close this chapter and start at the next one of your life.

To the Free family,
We have lost another good friend and neighbor in the Salem community. As your flag is probably flying at half mast in his memory we will remember a great former military man.
Our prayers are with your entire family.

Words can't describe the amount of respect and admiration I have for General Free. He was such a great leader and role model to all. I feel truly blessed to have known and served with him. The Free family will be in my prayers.
