Obituary

Beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend, Dr. Charmille Bridges Tamulinas, 66 of Katy, Texas and Circle Pines, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas with Pastor Emmanuel Jackson of Living Word Lutheran Church, Katy and Pastor Phil Fenton presiding. A memorial in White Bear Lake, Minnesota will follow.

Charmille was born on June 22, 1949 in Brenham, Texas to Dr. Charles and Mildred Bridges. She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School where she was active in sports, especially girls’ basketball and cheerleading. She was elected Homecoming Queen in 1966. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Zoology, a MS in Education, and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Toxicology from Texas A&M University. She taught and developed a curriculum for a biology program at the Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, Texas. She was a research scientist at Alcon Pharmaceuticals in Fort Worth, Texas. She later worked in Evansville, Indiana for Bristol-Myers Squibb, where she was a principal scientist. She served for several years as Department Head of the Toxicology and Pathology Department at 3M Pharmaceuticals in St. Paul, Minnesota. In all three jobs she was responsible for pharmaceutical safety studies, which were presented to the FDA for approval. She continued to consult for four years after retiring from 3M with various pharmaceutical companies and independent research laboratories.

She was a special friend and mentor to colleagues throughout her distinguished career. She loved quilting, gardening, fly-fishing, and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, Boundary Waters Canoeing, and hiking the Grand Canyon and Swiss Alps. She was devoted to her pets Gus, Grace and her French bulldog, Travis. Throughout her career she was a staunch advocate for patient safety in the development of new pharmaceutical therapies. She also participated in activities of the church in both Minneapolis and Katy.

Charmille is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles H. Bridges, grandparents, aunt and uncle Bertha and Garrett Spitzer and cousins, Sherry Blume, Ken and Neil Kruse.

She is survived by: husband of 31 years, Dr. Stacey Tamulinas of Katy and Circle Pines, Minnesota; mother, Mildred Bridges of College Station; brothers, Dr. Gary W. Bridges (Kathy) of Frisco and Greg A. Bridges (Donna) of Brenham; uncles, Ed Kruse (Evelyn) and Howard Kruse (Verlin) of Brenham and aunt, Evelyn Ann Kruse of Brenham. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Madison, Eric, and Katerina.
