Obituary

James “Jimmy” Worley McIver, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his Brenham, TX, home on December 9, 2014, after a long fight with cancer. Jimmy was born on March 24, 1942, in Madisonville, TX. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he was also a devoted member of the Cowboy Church of Brenham, a member of the Texas Golf Association, and was the Chief Justice of the Washington County Republic of Texas.

Jimmy was a spirited entrepreneur, having business interests ranging from commercial real estate to the oil and gas industry throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, having played with the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Lee Trevino, and was quick to join the local country club of each town in which he lived. Demonstrating his propensity for eternal optimism, he was often heard on the course to say “Hey podz, don’t sweat it, there are more holes to get it back.” As we know, Jimmy was always happy to share his opinions when it became to politics, and he often used Twitter as his platform. He also had a softer side, as could be seen in his published poetry and his quick fancy footwork on the dance floor, especially when it came to the jitterbug.

Through the years of his life, he has cherished spending time with his granddaughters whom he adored and was known to them as “Pops.” Late into his illness, family became even more important to Jimmy, as he was in pain and not as spry as many of us remember him, he continued to persevere. He was able to make it to the courthouse to stand by his youngest daughter during the civil ceremony portion of her wedding, and to witness his two sons develop into successful men of which he was very proud.

A gatherin’ will be held at the First Baptist Church Sycamore House, located at 105 Sycamore Street in Brenham, TX on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00. All are welcome to join the family, to reminisce and celebrate the entertaining life of Jimmy McIver.
