Obituary
Daniel Dennis Stepan, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, while residing at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas.
Dan was born on July 5, 1928, to John Anton and Lillie (Maresh) Stepan in the small farming community of Bleiblerville, Texas. He was the first of ten children and was baptized at Nelsonville Brethren Church. The family later moved to another rural community, Monaville, Texas, where Dan continued his education and graduated from Monaville School.
During his final years at Monaville School, Dan met his future wife, Billie Joyce Bolin. Following Joyce’s graduation, the couple married on July 25, 1949, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted nearly six decades.
In 1948, Dan began a 40-year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, working in Houston, throughout the Texas Valley, and later in Austin, helping bring telephone service to South Texas communities. A dedicated and hardworking provider, he held many roles—including lineman, cable splicer, installer, and repair technician. During these years, he and his wife, Joyce, welcomed two sons, Ray and Terry. Dan coached Little League Baseball for both of his sons for a number of years. He was transferred to Austin in 1968, where he continued working until his retirement in 1988.
After retirement, Dan enjoyed a quieter, well-earned life. Following Joyce’s passing, he moved to Fayetteville in 2008. Dan found joy in life’s simple pleasures, playing 42 and straight dominoes with the Fayetteville Senior Citizens, relaxing on the front porch swing, and watching the Houston Astros and the Cleveland Indians on television. He was a regular at the Fayetteville Morning Coffee Club at Orsak’s Restaurant. He helped with the Fayette County Food Distribution in Fayetteville and at times, he volunteered to take tickets at the Fayetteville Baseball Field.
Preceding Dan in death are his parents: wife; brothers Allen Stepan and wife Dorothy (Jeanie), Clarence Stepan and wife, Glen, John Stepan, Jr., David Stepan, Donald Stepan; his sister Lillie Mae (Dolly) Schultz and husband Delbert; sister-in-law, Eunice Stepan; and nieces Brenda Mize and Diana Stepan; nephews Doug Stepan and Clifford Hoff.
