Edward Anthony Pothul, 60, passed away on October 25, 2021. Ed was born on February 13, 1961 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Edward and Hazel Pothul.

Ed grew up in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. His love of sports and broadcasting began in high school when he began broadcasting at the tender age of 15 for WSBS in Great Barrington. He also played high school football and graduated in 1979 from Mt. Everett Regional in Sheffield, Massachusetts. After graduating from high school he went to Eastern New Mexico University for broadcasting.

Ed left New Mexico and decided to make his home in Brenham, Texas when he began working for KWHI on September 9, 1989. Ed became known as “The Sports Doc” as he broadcasted many sporting events here in the Washington County area. In 2015, Ed received the Brenham Cub Football Hall of Honor.

Ed had many joys in his life including his family, friends and sports but none more loved than his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Ed had much love for Brenham and the people in it. He loved and enjoyed getting to know the players, their stats and interviewing them was always a real joy for him. He did what he loved and loved what he did.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Steven Pothul and his aunt; Yvonne MacMillan. He is survived by his brother; John Pothul and sister; Jennifer Kergaravat both of Sheffield, MA and his aunt Maryann Fox of Agawam, MA along with 5 nieces, 7 nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews.

Ed will be laid to rest privately in Chappell Hill, Texas.

In lieu of flowers Ed’s niece is setting up a scholarship in Doc’s honor for a Brenham student that wants to go into broadcasting. Donations for funeral cost will also be set up.
