What a shock and loss to the community, the "Sports Doc" will be greatly missed. Over the years, I interviewed with "Doc" in various capacities, all of which were most enjoyable. He was very personable, always made me laugh and we always had stories to share when the interview was over. His passion for coverage of community-wide sports was evident in his voice and knowledge of the game & players which he covered. Although sports was "his love", his coverage of any newsworthy story was done in a very tasteful manner. The morning show with Craig and Doc was always entertaining and one rarely missed in our household. Thanks for all the great memories!

I would like to express sincere condolences to Ed's family and the staff of KWHI/KTTX. I worked with Ed in the late 80's and it was truly a pleasure. He always had a big smile on his face and a heart as big as Texas. May you rest in peace my friend.

Keith and I primarily worked with Ed during Little League All-Star Seasons. Ed worked hard to cover as many Washington County All Star games as possible. What I particularly admired was that Ed brought the same energy and commitment to calling a Machine Pitch game as he did the upper level games. He was encouraging to players of all ages and abilities.

Our family is sending condolences to Ed’s family. The Sports Doc will be greatly missed. We always enjoyed hearing him announce games over KWHI. We know he is with Our Father in a much better place. Mitchell Hall family

My deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to Ed and his family. One of the first people that I met when I moved to Brenham in the fall of 1991 was the Sports Doc. One of the best parts of coaching at Blinn and living in Brenham was the presence of the Sports Doc. He continued to remain a close friend even after I moved on in my coaching career. I look forward to visiting with my friend one day in Heaven. Love you, Sports Doc!!!

My condolences to all of Ed's family and his great many friends. I had the great fortune of 1st meeting Ed way back in 1990 when he had just come to Brenham and I was playing baseball for the Blinn Bucs. We were reunited in 2004 when I was hired by BISD. I will truly miss seeing Ed on a routine basis at sporting events and hearing his voice on the radio. What I will miss most are the messages concerning the Irish and the friendly wagers made during Red Sox/Braves series. In one of our last conversations he told me to send the boys out there to win one for the Sports Doc. Though he is gone, he will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Dear Pothul family,
I hope your family knows how much the citizens of Washington county loved the “Sports Doc”. He was a fan favorite and was always surrounded by the crowds at games. Our heart share your sorrow.
May the fond memories tucked in our heart bring us comfort on those dark days.
Praying for peace, comfort & understanding that only God can provide.
Sincere condolences,
Debra & Rick Eckert
