Obituary

Elene Tiemann Glenz went peacefully to the Lord on March 27, 2020. Born September 29, 1925, to Fritz and Mathilda (Kettler) Tiemann, Elene was born and raised in Washington County, Texas. She was baptized on October 25, 1925 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Reverend C.J. Appel. She married Raymond Glenz on November 25, 1943, and they had three children together Carol, Donald and Larry.

Elene was known for her immaculate yard, house filled with little ones, and the best home cooked food. She took great pride in her yard, always making sure it was mowed properly, and the flower beds were blooming with bright colors. Her love for flowers didn’t stop with the yard. She also enjoyed growing African violets inside her home. Elene’s love for kids was clear in her love for her own children, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and for the countless kids she watched at her home daycare. Between her love for kids, and keeping her yard looking its best, Elene could be found in the kitchen making something for herself, her kids, or grandkids. Her grandkids would come to her home after school, and were greeted with honey bars, chocolate marble cake, or some other sort of delicious treat- but always with one piece already eaten, because Elene wanted to make sure it tasted good.

Elene loved visitors stopping by her home and phone calls with friends and family. It wasn’t uncommon to try and call Elene but receive a busy signal a few times, she enjoyed hearing from others. You could also always find a needle and thread somewhere in her home, as quilting, needlework and sewing was something she loved to do. She taught her grandchildren how to cross-stitch and took great pride in quilts she made for each of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Elene’s faith in the Lord was strong and mighty, no matter what challenges she faced along the way. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was also involved in LWML Afternoon Circle. She attended church regularly, and found great peace throughout life through her relationship with Jesus Christ. Even after numerous health challenges, Elene could still recite the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, and countless other Bible verses by heart.

Elene loved being at home, and was determined to stay there until her final day. She had wonderful care, from friends and family stopping by to check on her, and in her later days a wonderful group of caretakers that stayed with her day and night. These caretakers took care of Elene as if she was their own mother or grandmother, and the family is thankful for Melanie Walker, Lina Romero, Judy Harris, “Chick” Jenkins, and Dezteni Scyrus. In addition to the caretakers that stayed with Elene, she was also cared for by the wonderful staff and nurses from Brazos Valley Hospice.

Elene was blessed with three children, Carol, Donald and Larry. And while being mother and Mama Glenz (Ms. Glenz) to many of her kids was important to Elene, one of her greatest blessings was being a grandmother and great-grandmother to eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Elene is survived by daughter and son-in-law, David and Carol Husfeld; son, Donald Glenz; daughter-in-law, Diana Glenz; grandchildren and spouses, Terrie and Kenny Smarr, Doug and Tanya Husfeld, Jeff and Anna Husfeld, Sandy and Jody Osbourn, Lesley and Rob Launikitis, Genna and Chad Lechler, Meghan and Ross Windham, Whitney Glenz; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by: husband, Raymond Glenz; son, Larry Glenz; daughter-in-law, Debbye Bailey Glenz; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Fritz Langeneggar, Evelyn and John Ludwig; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Irene Tiemann, Lonnie and Eleanor Tiemann; sister, Lillie Tiemann; and mother and father, Fritz and Mathilda (Kettler) Tiemann.
