Obituary

George Lee Kingston, Sr., 78 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his home.

George was born September 2, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas to William L. and Iola Beatrice (Holcomb) Kingston, Jr. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas. George proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. George was an entrepreneur; he worked in sales and was also employed in the floor covering business retiring from Swiff Train. On April 19, 1973, George was married to Betty Jo Williams by Rev. Willie E. Williams in Brenham. Together they operated Kingston’s Restaurant, Brazos River Barbecue, and Sander’s Place in Brenham.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in San Antonio, Order of the Eastern Star, and B.P.O.E. #979.

Survivors include: wife, Betty Jo (Williams) Kingston of Brenham; sons, George L, Kingston, Jr. of College Station, Glenn Kingston and Michael Blue both of Brenham; daughter Karin Ann King and husband Wade of College Station; grandchildren, Richard King and fiancé Erica Montoya of College Station, Misty and James Becker of Ft. Worth, Michael C. Blue, Jr. of Brookhaven, Mississippi, GSM3 Dustin Kingston of Jacksonville, Florida, Kimberlyn Blue, JoHanna Kingston and Joshua Kingston all of Brenham; great-grandchildren Victoria and Colton Becker of Ft. Worth; brother-in-law A. Jack Paul, Jr. of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Walter H. Kingston and William L. Kingston, III and sister Winnie Beatrice Paul.

Viewing will begin Friday morning. The Kingston family will receive friends Friday, June 11, 2004 from 6:00 - 8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Embry officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Thomas E. Williams, Mark Williams, Ronald Baade, Donald Moehlmann, Don Coleman, A.J. “Jackie” Paul, III, Henry Burns and Linda Pitts. Honorary pallbearers are A.J. “Jack” Paul, Jr., Bill Kellogg, Melroy Gylsen, Gene LaFleur, Gary Reuter, Mike Hopkins, Cliff Whaley, Carey Counsil and members of the Elk’s Club of Brenham.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Brazos Valley.
