Obituary

Jeffrey Dean “Jeff” “Pup” Ehlert, 65, died peacefully after visiting with family on March 15, 2023, while in Hospice care. He was born September 10, 1957, in Brenham, Texas, the son of Melvin H. “Fritzie” Ehlert and Gloria Schroeder Ehlert.

Jeff was baptized on November 18, 1957, and confirmed March 26, 1972 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas.

Jeff graduated from Brenham High School, Class of 1976. After graduation, he attended Blinn College where he was involved in student government and service organizations. He then attended Texas A&M University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management.

Throughout his working career Jeff worked in a variety of sales positions. He served as the Manager of the Chamber of Commerce in Junction, Texas, where he made great friends. Jeff was also part of the family insurance business and managed and operated his own irrigation business. Jeff worked in a variety of positions at Mattress Firm, where he spent time in Austin, St. Louis and Las Vegas.

Jeff enjoyed visiting with friends, family gatherings, working out, cooking, and going to the beach. He was passionate about the youth ministries at St. Pauls’ and enjoyed serving on the Washington County Fair Entertainment Committee for many years.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Melvin H. “Fritzie” Ehlert. Surviving in addition to his mother, Gloria Schroeder Ehlert, are his brothers Melvin Ehlert Jr. and Scott Ehlert, and his wife Rebecca Ehlert, niece Anna Ehlert Molyneaux, and her husband Ian Molyneaux, and their son Hunter, of London England, nephew Melvin H. “Chip” Ehlert III and his wife Danielle Ehlert and their daughter Emmerson Ehlert and son Ezra Fritz Ehlert of The Woodlands, nephew Scott Andrew “Andy” Ehlert and his wife Nisa Lintakoon of Austin, and niece Lillie Ehlert Morrison and her husband Nick Morrison of Sugarland.

The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Christopher Lockhart and the entire staff at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center that treated Jeff throughout his lengthy medical event.

A Visitation will be held at Brenham Memorial Chapel Friday March 24 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with family being present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday March 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brenham, TX. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Jeff’s pallbearers are Hayden Barry, Dr. Dennis Crowson, Charles Haygood, William Holle, Rob Hungate, Mac McMahan, Richard O’Malley, Dr. Chip Routt, Allen Stern, Arlen Thielemann, Robert Weiss, and Christopher Wilson.
