Obituary

Marty Montgomery, age 72, of Brenham, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones at home.

Martin Eugene Montgomery was born March 8, 1948 in Lordstown, Ohio to Eugene and Velma (Stein) Montgomery.

Marty was a proud graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. He was a public school teacher and principal before moving to Brenham, where he later retired from the Brenham State Supported Living Center after holding numerous roles as unit director, human rights officer, and abuse investigator.

Marty was married to Johanna Geers on March 24, 1984.

Marty loved riding motorcycles, wood working, and driving his tractor around his 10 acres. He enjoyed reading any history book or biography he could get his hands on, cruising around town in his 1997 Buick Riviera, and sitting on the back porch watching the birds fly in at dusk.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lee Montgomery.

He is survived by: wife, Johanna Geers Montgomery; daughter and son-in-law, Annie and Jordan LaBeth; son, Jacob Montgomery; daughter and grandchildren, Connie Montgomery, and Abigail French, Anna French, Alex French; son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren, John Paul and Sarah Montgomery, and PJ Montgomery, Ella Montgomery; sister, Claudia Montgomery Orr; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Terry Montgomery; sister-in-law, Melodie Montgomery; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, June 26, 2020 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Brenham for immediate family.

Due to the public health concerns caused by COVID-19, the family encourages those attending the visitation to wear a mask and observe social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, 100 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy, Brenham, TX 77833.
