Obituary
Marvin James Cockrell, 77, of Brenham passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012. He is survived by his wife Grace Cockrell; daughter Rita and husband Dave Homeier of Brenham; son Monte Cockrell of San Antonio; brother Sherrill R. Cockrell of Walburg; sisters Willella Boyd of Belton and Sarah and husband Fred Bowlden of Rockwall, TX; grandson Nathan Homeier and granddaughter Leah Homeier along with several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Mike Cockrell, Charles Cockrell and Thomas Cockrell.
Marvin was born February 26, 1935 in Bell County, TX the son of Chester and Charlcie (Elms) Cockrell. He grew up in a small farm house in Bell County, TX with four brothers and two sisters. Most of Marvin’s youth was spent farming, goat roping and fence building.
Marvin was united in marriage to Grace McCoy in McCullough County, TX October 11, 1958. Marvin was Glastron Boat Manufacturer’s Shipping Supervisor for 26 years which was followed by a venture in the hearing aid business where he tested and fitted hundreds of Central Texas customers for over 17 years. Marvin was an avid golfer and could always be found on the golf course Tuesdays and Thursdays or coordinating annual family golf tournaments.
Marvin used the Bible as a roadmap for life. He was a strong, moral, ethical, Christian man and an example for others to follow. He was an active Deacon for over 27 years at Crestview Baptist Church, Georgetown, TX. Marvin and Grace moved to Brenham TX in 2006 to be near grandchildren, whom he loved very much. They became members of First Baptist Church in Brenham. Marvin continued his devotion to our Lord and Savior exhibiting spiritual maturity as an active member of his Sunday School Class, teaching the Lord’s word and always offering a handshake with a warm smile and a story. You could always count on Marvin when in need, whether a Biblical question or digging a ditch. He was always there to lend a helping hand.
Marvin will be missed, but his friends and family are secure in knowing he is in a better place because of his faith in the saving grace of his Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm, Friday, August 24, 2012 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Brenham Memorial Chapel, Pastor Troy Sikes, officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery, 1004 Prairie Lea Street, Brenham TX. Pallbearers will be family members and church members.
