Obituary

Mary Jo “Cookie” Barnett, age 80, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022.

She was born January 23, 1942 in Brenham to Stanley and Clara (Kasprowicz) Baranowski. On January 25, 1942, she was baptized by Rev. Charles Weisnerowski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she remained a lifelong member. She received first communion on May 8, 1955. On April 15, 1956, she was confirmed by Bishop Reicher.

Cookie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, through the 8th grade, where she was also a cheerleader. She graduated Brenham High School in 1960. On April 12, 1990, Cookie was married to Don Barnett by Msgr. Ralph Brennan. Besides being a mother, she worked as a teller at Washington County State Bank. She also worked at KWIK Copy and as a receptionist at Hair Tech. In her later years, she enjoyed being a housewife.

Cookie enjoyed yardwork, especially mowing, gardening, and canning its produce. She also enjoyed cooking Polish recipes. She was a master in fishing using Tiny Torpedoes and loved playing pitch with family and friends. She especially loved time with her family and caring for her grand and great-grandchildren. She and Don enjoyed taking long drives in the evening, which she called “going on a Honeymoon”.

Most of all, Cookie loved Jesus with her whole heart. She had daily devotions, prayed and recited the rosary. She shared God’s love with those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dennis Gene Maynard, brother Alvin Baranowski and sister-in-law, Dolores.

Cookie is survived by her husband, Don Barnett, daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert Winkler, Sheri and Billy Rich; grandchildren and their spouses, Heather Huff (Kyle), Ashton Randermann (Andy), Zach Brittain (Tiffany), Christopher Gene Maynard, Shalynn Maynard, Dennis “Bubba” Maynard, Monica Maynard, Christopher Allen Maynard, Tiffanie Muske (Devin), and Bradley Rich, her great-grandchildren: John Fritz, Kinsleigh Fritz, Kenlie Muske, Avery Feist, Claire Huff, Haydon Huff, Jase Randermann, Jenna Randermann, Hayden Brittain, Arya Brittain, McKenna Maynard, Camdyn Cockroft, Tatum Cockroft, Ramsey Cockroft, Nicholas Maynard, Ezekiel Maynard and Justice Maynard. Surviving also is her mother-in-law, Margie(Lonnie) Lueck and father in law, Donnie Barnett, and sister-in-law, DeAnna Barnett. Last, but not least, her special friend and sister-in-law, Laurinda Kwiatkowski(Robert).

Viewing will be Tuesday, April 5th beginning at 8 am. Visitation with family will be from 5 -7 pm. with Rosary being recited at 7 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 6th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Brittain, Bradley Rich, Christopher Allen Maynard, John Douglas Fritz, Camdyn Cockroft, Tatum Cockroft, Ricky Gandara and Christopher Gene Maynard.

Memorials are requested to St. Mary’s playground, Susan G. Komen (Breast Cancer Foundation) or American Cancer Society.
