Obituary

Maurice “MJ” J. Gooch passed away on December 1, 2018.

MJ was born on September 5, 1944, to parents Paul J. and Elizabeth (Lasseter) Gooch. He grew up in Victoria. He later attended Texas A&I in Kingsville and graduated with a BS in chemistry. MJ came to Brenham to work with Exxon’s Party 6 and was a doodlebugger. Once Party 6 closed he moved to the Exxon’s upstream research in Houston and joined the geophysical research group. He was always inquisitive and loved learning new things. He truly was a jack-of-all-trades. His array of hobbies included musical pursuits such as singing in the choir and playing the pipe organ, growing special varieties of plants and flowers, and going on fossil hunts with his family.

MJ’s surviving loving family include wife Debbie, daughters Kristen Gooch (husband Pete Omlin) and Melissa Gooch (husband Christopher Graham), and many four-legged “fur babies”.

MJ is preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Elizabeth (Lasseter) Gooch.

A memorial service to celebrate MJ’s life will be held at 2 PM on December 19 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

If desired, contributions in memory of MJ may be made to Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX. 979.836.3611 Access online guest registration at www.BrenhamMemorialChapel.com
