Obituary

Owen Twayne “ Buddy “ Shipp III, age 62, of Somerville, TX passed away at his home on Saturday, May 28, 2011.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1st at Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham, TX from 5:00- 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the A & M Church of Christ in College Station, TX. Graveside services will be held on 2:00 PM, Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Texas State Cemetery at Abilene, Abilene TX.

Buddy Shipp was born in Denton, TX on December 23, 1948 to Owen Twayne “Skipper” Shipp Jr. and Bettye McKinzie Shipp. Buddy met his wife, Wanda Warden Shipp, while attending Fort Worth Christian School. Following their marriage, Buddy served in the US Navy/US Marines as a Corpsman. After his service, Buddy attended Abilene Christian University and then served as a youth minister in Texas and Colorado.

Buddy Shipp, a restaurateur, founded The American Samaritan Fellowship in 1991. The non- profit church was originally set up to feed struggling homeless individuals and families and to provide them with the basic needs for survival. Since its beginning in 1991, ASF has aided victims in all areas of relief by partnering with humanitarian organizations, private voluntary organizations, universities, American businesses, international agencies, and U.S. government entities in major disasters within the USA and around the world, including the terrorist attack on the Oklahoma Federal Building, the Asian Tsunami, the terrorist attacks at Ground Zero, Hurricane Katrina and the Earthquake in Haiti.

Surviving Buddy Shipp is his wife, Wanda Shipp of Somerville; their three sons and wives, Owen Twayne Shipp IV and Debbie of Cameron, TX, Jeremiah Warden Kingshipp and Laura of State College, PA, Joseph Ryan Shipp and Christina of College Station, TX; eight grandchildren, Owen Twayne Shipp V, Simon Jacob Shipp, Alicia McKenzie Shipp, Parker Jonathan Kingshipp, Hayden Kay Kingshipp, Keaton Lara Kingshipp, Kylee Kay Shipp and Jessi Ryan Shipp; his mother Bettye McKinzie Shipp of Abilene, TX two sisters and their husbands, Sara and John Rosser of Lubbock, TX, Martha and Terry Groves, of Lubbock, TX; a brother-in-law and wife, Danny and Meridon Warden of Bryan, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and close friend, Brett Halbert.

Buddy is preceded in death by his father Owen Twayne “ Skipper “ Shipp Jr., two sisters, Sandra Thomas of Gulf Breeze, FL., and Paula Shipp of Lubbock, TX, a brother, Stephen Shipp of Abilene, TX, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frances and Kathryn Warden of Bryan, TX and his grandparents, Owen Twayne Shipp, Sr. and Olga Shipp of Leuders, TX, and John McKinzie of Abilene, TX, and Edith Edds of Ruidosa, NM.
