Obituary

Calvin Beckendorf was born almost 90 years ago on his family’s dairy farm in Addicks, Texas. He had a happy childhood there surrounded by his loving parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

When the Addicks Dam displaced the family in 1944, Calvin’s family moved to a farm near Brenham, where he later graduated from high school and Blinn College. He was drafted into the Army and after his years of service he graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown. He spent the next 3 years working as a home missionary. During this time, while working in a children’s home in Georgia, he met Marie Sanderson. They were married for 60 years and blessed with children, Barbara and Richard.

Together they served 21 Methodist churches in the Texas Conference. Beloved by his family and many friends, Calvin enjoyed his retirement years in Brenham. Through the hardships brought on by his last 8 years of illness he lived each day expressing gratitude for his many blessings and enjoying visits from his family and friends. His family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful care Calvin received during the last year of his life from Hospice Brazos Valley.

Calvin is survived by his wife, children and their spouses, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

If you wish to make a donation in Calvin’s honor, please consider the Brenham United Methodist Men's Cemetery Fund or Hospice Brazos Valley.

Visitation will be at Brenham Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 29th from 4:00-6:00. Memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church in Brenham on Sunday, June 30th at 2:00.
