Obituary

Ronald Wayne “Ronnie” Luhn, 76, of Cat Spring, Texas, passed away on June 6, 2026. While he will be deeply missed here on Earth, his family finds comfort in knowing he is fully healed, whole, and in the presence of Jesus. No more suffering—only perfect peace. Ronnie is most certainly rejoicing on the outskirts of Heaven, where there are dirt roads for miles, deer in the fields, and fish in the river. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, laughter, and devotion to those he loved most.

Ronnie was born on December 17, 1949, to Felix “Boots” Luhn and Ruby Luhn. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville.

He graduated from Brenham High School in 1968 and later graduated from John Connally Technical Institute, now Texas State Technical College (TSTC), in 1970. He took great pride in the fact that his youngest grandson, Wyatt, graduated from the same institution exactly 50 years later, in 2020.

On June 14, 1969, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Lee “Dotsy” Hinze. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work. They were not only partners in building a family and a life together but also partners in building businesses.

Ronnie was known for his strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to build just about anything. He worked as a partner in Evans Cabinet and Door, owned and operated Ronald Luhn Construction, and owned and operated a dairy farm. He also served as former president of the CCA in Brenham and was an avid supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.

As a young boy, Ronnie spent many happy days on his grandparents’ farm in Cat Spring, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and country life. That special place remained close to his heart, and he was especially pleased to finally call Cat Spring home.

He enjoyed baseball and football in his youth and carried his competitive spirit throughout his life. He was an All-District Defensive End for the Brenham Cub football team and was an alternate on the 1964 Senior League baseball team. The Brenham all-stars won their regional tournament to reach the World Series, which was held in Louisville, Kentucky. They made it all the way to the championship game before falling to Massapequa, New York.

Ronnie built many homes and crafted countless cabinets during his construction years. His family fondly remembers watching him walk across framed rooftops with confidence and ease, as though they were solid ground. Several members of Ronnie’s construction crew from almost fifty years ago became like sons to him and remained dear friends until the end of his life.

One of his boldest accomplishments was building his dairy barn with his own hands. He faithfully milked cows at 3:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. every day, regardless of weather, weekends, or holidays. After morning milking, he often went on to work at Evans Cabinet Shop. His dedication and work ethic were unmatched.

Ronnie also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Countless trips to Port O’Connor and weekends and holidays at the deer lease created lasting memories with family and friends. Endless stories from the deer lease filled his family’s lives with laughter and cherished memories.

He loved to dance and could often be found on the dance floor at gatherings, enjoying life and encouraging others to join him. Ronnie was also known for his sense of humor and storytelling. His quick wit and laughter brought joy to those around him and made every room brighter.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Dotsy Luhn; his daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Bill Hohlt; his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Veronica Luhn; his grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Hohlt, Kyle and Caitlin Luhn, and Wyatt and Courtney Hohlt; his great-grandchildren, Taytum Lauren Hohlt and Tyetan Wayne Hohlt; and his eagerly anticipated great-grandson, Hesston Harold Hohlt, expected in August.

He is also survived by his mother, Ruby Luhn; his sister, Debra Howell; his uncle who was more like a brother, Billy Schaffner and wife Doris; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Vierus; Carolyn and Ronny Nazarian; Margie Spinn; Bernice Vaughn; and Trudi Hinze; special family members Bill, Traci, and Jayci Moran; Paul and Angel Murski and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and fishing and hunting buddies.

He was preceded in death by his father, Felix “Boots” Luhn; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Christine Hinze; his grandparents, William and Hilma Schaffner; his brothers-in-law, Jerry Joe Vaughn, Glenwood Vierus, Herbert Hinze, James Hinze, and Billy Spinn; his sister-in-law, Nancy Hinze; and special family member Dusty Morgan.

Serving as pallbearers are Tyler and Taylor Hohlt, Kyle and Caitlin Luhn, Wyatt and Courtney Hohlt, Bill Moran, Paul Murski, Doug Wise, and Mike Kasprowicz. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Evans, Charles Schubert, Rodney Forrester, T. J. Menke, and the 1968 Brenham Cubs football team.

Ronnie’s life was defined by family, hard work, and humor. He built more than homes, businesses, cabinets, and barns—he built a legacy that will live on through all who knew and loved him.
