Obituary

Walter Richter age 91 of Brenham and a resident of Brenham Rest Home went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 25, 2014.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29th from 5 PM to 7 PM at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30th at 10 AM in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastor Charles Parnell and Pastor Toby Burk officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers are Donald Draehn, Norman Draehn, Michael Draehn, Stephen Draehn, Jon Forsythe, David Hendrix,Otto Kemper, Jr., Glenn Neutzler, Paul Richter, and Terry Rudloff. Honorary pallbearers are Will O’Brien, Glen Goodman, Glen Hendrix, Fred Mace, Robert Rippenhagen, and Gene Stanford.

Walter was born on November 23, 1922 to Hanna Kemper Richter and Ben Richter, Sr. He was baptized January 1, 1923 and confirmed March 21, 1937 at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem by Pastor William Utesch. He attended Salem School thru the 8th grade. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Walter came home to work on the family farm. He was employed by Johnny Emshoff doing carpenter work and also worked for Brenham Wholesale for 21 years.

Walter was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church of Salem and was also a member of the American Legion Buddy Wright Post 48, VFW, Salem Volunteer Fire Department, and the Salem Shooting Club.

Walter loved his farm and seeing his crops grow. He loved feeding the birds, feeding his catfish, playing dominoes, and listening to polka music and western music. He took great pride in raising corn and raising a vegetable garden which he shared with family and friends. Walter had a heart of gold and helped so many people with whatever needed to be done and will be missed by many.

Walter was preceded in death by parents, brother Bennie Richter, and brother-in-law Carol Hendrix. Survivors include: sister, Mildred Hendrix of Bryan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Richter of Richmond; nieces, Gail Terry, Ann Reed, and Cheri Blankenship and husband Dean; nephews, Paul Richter, David Hendrix and Glen Hendrix; great nieces and great nephews, Joe Terry and wife Kathy, Amber Terry, Larry Ray Reed, Bennie Ray Reed, Craig Richter and wife Jennifer, Cody Richter, Chloe Blankenship, Alec Blankenship, and Breck Blankenship; and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church Youth of Salem or a favorite charity.
